Derry City came from a goal behind to defeat Waterford in Friday night's Eircom Premier clash at the RSC.
Kenny Browne gave the home side the lead on 37 minutes but Kevin Deery replied for the Candystripes twelve minutes after the interval.
Killian Brennan's 60th minute goal proved to be the matchwinner.
Drogheda beat Longford 1-0 to maintain a four-point lead at the top of the table but Cork now trail second placed Derry by three after losing their game.
Damien Richardson's side went down 2-0 at St Patrick's Athletic.
At the RSC, Waterford opened the scoring against the run of play when Browne bundled the ball home from a corner kick.
A stunning 30-yard volley from Deery levelled the scores and Brennan shot Derry into the lead when he pounced on a Deery cross, giving goalkeeper Shane Dunphy no chance from 16 yards.
