Norwich boss Nigel Worthington is set to sign 30-year-old striker Jonatan Johansson on loan from Premiership side Charlton for the rest of the season.
Johansson has made just three Premiership starts this season
Worthington is searching for forward to replace the departed Dean Ashton and has tried to land Robert Earnshaw from West Brom and Cardiff's Cameron Jerome.
"Johansson is a player that we have monitored for some time," he said.
"But with all transfers it is a case of waiting for something to happen and it being right for the club and player."
He added: "We will be working until the last minute to bring someone in.
"If I can complete a deal coming down the tunnel at Reading on Tuesday, then I will."
He added: "There is no point in bringing players in to go sideways. We need to bring players in who will help us go forwards."
