Norwich have signed Tottenham's Republic of Ireland utility man Gary Doherty on a three-year deal.
Doherty, 24, has joined the City squad for the game against Manchester United.
"Once I spoke to manager Nigel Worthington and he made it clear how much he wanted me here my mind was made up," said Doherty.
"I now have to fight for my place and help keep the club in the Premiership. I don't want to be playing in the Chamiponship," added Doherty.
Doherty is manager Nigel Worthington's
eighth signing of the summer.
"The experience he's had at Premiership level and international level makes him a great addition to the squad," said assistant manager Doug Livermore.
"Obviously his favourite position is as a central defender and the gaffer will want to be playing him there. But there will be occasions if need be that he can go up front."
