1602: Roy Keane wins both penalty shoot-out tosses and Manchester United will take the first penalty in front of their own fans.

1559: The full-time whistle blows and the Community Shield will go to a penalty shoot-out.

1558: Tim Howard comes out of his area very smartly to thwart Sylvain Wiltord.

1552: With penalties looming, Ruud van Nistelrooy turns well in the box but fires over the bar.

1550: Roy Keane clatters into Patrick Vieira and both players are left prostrate on the grass. After treatment, both are ready to resume action.

1546: There is another flashpoint as Eric Djemba-Djemba leaves his foot in when challenging Sol Campbell. The Arsenal defender retaliates by flicking his foot at the Cameroonian - but the referee decides to take no action other than talking to both players.

1545: Manchester United send on Diego Forlan to replace Phil Neville, who looks as if he may be limping.

1540: Arsenal are down to 10 men as Francis Jeffers is sent off. Phil Neville comes in heavily on Jeffers - the players tangle and Jeffers kicks out at Neville. The referee is right on the spot and immediately shows the Arsenal substitute a red card, which will mean a three-match ban.

1538: Eric Djemba-Djemba battles his way through the Arsenal defence and finishes with a curling chip that is only just off target. The Cameroon international has made a favourable impression in his first few minutes on the pitch.

1536: Paul Scholes finds Ryan Giggs - with the goalkeeper committed off his line, Giggs tries a chip but the ball drifts wide.

1534: Quinton Fortune is substituted by John O'Shea.

1530: Freddie Ljungberg is replace by Giovanni van Bronckhorst.

1529: Quinton Fortune makes a darting run through the Arsenal defence but is well tackled by Kolo Toure.

1526: Dennis Bergkamp and Gilberto come off with Francis Jeffers and Edu replacing them. Meanwhile, United make their first substitution with Nicky Butt giving way to new signing Eric Djemba-Djemba.

1525: Quinton Fortune is booked for blocking Freddie Ljungberg's run into the Man Utd half.

1521: Despite the heat, the second half has begun at a frantic pace. Robert Pires breaks through the United defence but with Roy Keane closing him down, the Frenchman's effort from outside the box is wide and does not trouble goalkeeper Tim Howard.

1519: Paul Scholes is booked for kicking Lauren.

1517: Perhaps riled at losing out to Keane minutes earlier, Vieira brings down Quinton Fortune and is booked.

1515: Roy Keane wins a mini-battle between the two captains, running back half the length of the pitch before finally dispossessing Patrick Vieira.

1512: There is an early opportunity for United as Ryan Giggs crosses the ball across the face of the goal. Ruud van Nistelrooy is running in but cannot make contact and goes to ground with several United players appealing for a penalty. The referee waves play on.

1511: The referee blows his whistle and Manchester United kick off.

1510: The players emerge for the second half. Thierry Henry and Ray Parlour have been substituted in favour of Sylvain Wiltord and Robert Pires. Manchester United are unchanged from the first 45 minutes.

1452: Referee Steve Bennett blows for half-time and the players troop off the pitch to the welcome shade of the dressing rooms.
Half-time: Man Utd 1-1 Arsenal

1451: Scholes' lovely crossfield ball finds Solskjaer in the box but his first-time shot is well kept out by Jens Lehmann

1448: Ruud Van Nistelrooy's pass sets Ryan Giggs charging towards the Arsenal goal with a headstart on Ashley Cole but the linesman brings the move to a halt with his offside flag.

1447: Ryan Giggs nods the ball down into the path of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer but his shot is deflected over.

1439: United spurn a great chance to take the lead when Phil Neville crosses and Ruud van Nistelrooy brushes Ryan Giggs header onto the post and then hits the crossbar himself on the rebound.

1433: Ryan Giggs briefly threatens, cleverly dribbling past a couple of Arsenal defenders. But then he is forced inside onto his right foot and the attack breaks down.

1432: Some harrying of the Manchester United defence by Dennis Bergkamp almost pays off but Tim Howard is quick to come out and collect the ball.

1425: Arsenal are possibly fortunate to win a free-kick when Nicky Butt is adjudged to have fouled Patrick Vieira about 33 yards out. Thierry Henry then curls the ball into the bottom right-hand corner of Tim Howard's goal - it is a well-taken strike but from so far out, questions must be asked about the United wall and Howard's positioning.
Man Utd 1-1 Arsenal

1421: Roy Keane flicks on the corner at the near post and an unmarked Mikael Silvestre nods down into the net.
Man Utd 1-0 Arsenal

1420: Mikael Silvestre plays a Beckhamesque crossfield pass to find Ole Gunnar Solskjaer but the Norwegian cannot control the ball and has to settle for a corner.

1417: After the frenetic opening, the match has settled into a more sedate rhythm - probably a good thing for the players as with much of the pitch bathed in sunshine, it is likely to be a long and hot afternoon.

1413: Thierry Henry wins the first corner of the afternoon against Rio Ferdinand but new United goalkeeper Tim Howard makes a comfortable catch.

1408: It is one-all in terms of yellow cards as Ashley Cole gets booked for a challenge on Nicky Butt - the match is not yet 90 seconds old.

1407: Within 30 seconds, Phil Neville is booked for a badly mistimed tackle on Patrick Vieira.

1406: Steve Bennett blows his whistle and Dennis Bergkamp and Thierry Henry kick off for Arsenal, who are in their away kit.

1404: There is a minute's silence for Man Utd reserve forward Jimmy Davis and former Blackburn manager Ray Harford, both of whom died on Saturday.

1358: On an afternoon of sweltering heat, the players come out onto the Millennium Stadium pitch to an enthusiastic welcome from the fans - but the stadium is not full.
