Morecambe 6-1 Wolves

A strong Wolves team were thrashed by Conference side Morecambe, who raced into a 3-0 lead inside the opening 17 minutes.

The Premiership newcomers were rocked as Morecambe raced into a match-winning lead.

Alex Rae's backpass after just four minutes was intercepted by Wayne Curtis, who ran on to beat goalkeeper Michael Oakes.

Adriano Rigoglioso doubled the lead on 13 minutes when he ignored Colin Cameron's appeals for a foul and fired a 25-yard shot beyond Oakes' despairing dive.

Four minutes later, David Perkins set up Dean Howell for a shot that Oakes got a hand to but could not prevent spinning over the line as Denis Irwin desperately attempted to clear.

Wolves' miserable afternoon continued when striker Dean Sturridge limped off with a leg injury on 37 minutes.

And they were four down five minutes before the break when Curtis turned home Howell's cross from close range.

Wolves pulled back a consolation effort through substitute keith Andrews, who fired home a low free-kick from 30 yards after Cameron had been fouled.

But two goals in a four-minute spell completed a miserable afternoon for Wolves boss Dave Jones.

Danny Charleton's cross left Lee Dodgeson with a simple tap-in for the fifth, before Charleton himself completed the rout following Ryan Zico Black's pass.
