Dunn signs for Blues
Midfielder David Dunn

England midfielder David Dunn has completed his 5.5m transfer from Blackburn Rovers to Birmingham City.

Dunn, 23, agreed a four-year deal with the St Andrews club and passed his medical on Thursday but has now officially become a Birmingham player.

He is expected to be unveiled when manager Steve Bruce returns from holiday.

"I was a big Blackburn fan and as a family we've been going down to Ewood Park since I was about nine or 10," said Dunn.

"Obviously it's very hard to leave a club that you've supported all your life.

"But the reason that I've come to Birmingham is that I think Steve Bruce is one of the best young managers in the country and that Birmingham as a club is a sleeping giant.

"They are a team on the up, and I'm sure that if things carry on in the same direction Birmingham can become a massive club."

Dunn had two years left on his contract at Ewood Park and turned down the offer of an extended deal to stay at the club.

His attitude was criticised by Rovers boss Graeme Souness but the Blackburn manager denied any reports of a rift between the pair.

"I would like to thank David for all his efforts and wish him well for the future," Souness told the Lancashire Evening Telegraph.

Birmingham chairman David Gold said: "This is a fantastic signing for the club and, following the arrival of Matthew Upson and Christophe Dugarry last season, highlights our ability to attract top players."

Dunn progressed through the youth ranks at Ewood Park and signed his first professional contract with Rovers at 17, making his first team debut at 18.

He went on to make 169 appearances for Blackburn and after representing England at youth and Under-21 level he was given his full debut by Sven-Goran Eriksson against Portugal last September.
