Dons get the Bird

Bolton Wanderers academy striker Michael Bird has impressed on trial with Aberdeen.

The 19-year-old is out of contract in the summer and is unlikely to be retained by the English Premiership club.

And Aberdeen assistant manager Duncan Shearer said: "We will have a look at him. He is 19 and is tall for a striker and is in the mould we are look for.

"We have seen him in action for the first time today and the first impressions are good."

Aberdeen look likely to miss out on signing target Dennis Wyness, who appears likely to move instead to Hearts from Inverness Caledonian Thistle at the end of the season.
