Turner worth 50,000
Everton goalkeeper Iain Turner
Iain Turner has a meteoric rise in senior football
Everton and Stirling Albion have agreed a 50,000 fee for goalkeeper Iain Turner.

And the cash for the 18-year-old will help the Scottish Third Division club find a replacement after the experienced Chris Reid suffered a serious injury.

Turner left Forthbank for Goodison Park on freedom of contract during the January transfer window.

Stirling had threatened to take the matter to a tribunal after refusing an initial offer from Everton.

But Stirling chairman Peter McKenzie told his club's website that, with football finances becoming tighter, "50,000 for Iain represents a good deal".

The fee will double once Turner, who also thrust himself into the Scotland youth set-up despite only half a season in senior football, plays 15 first-team games for the English Premiership club.

Albion are reportedly now in negotiations with former Ross County goalkeeper Stefan Gonet.

Gonet has previously been on trial with Stirling, as well as Airdrie United, Partick Thistle and Raith Rovers.

But Stirling failed to sign a replacement in time to face Elgin City on Saturday and Anton Nugent took the No.1 jersey.

Former Hamilton Academical goalkeeper Reid had been delighted to win back his place after the departure of Turner.

But the 31-year-old was stretchered off against Albion Rovers on Wednesday and a suspected snapped Achilles tendon appears to have ended his season.
