Shrewsbury 2-1 Port Vale
Shrewbury win on the golden goal rule
Ryan Lowe's golden-goal winner sent Shrewsbury Town into the semi-finals of the LDV Vans Trophy Southern Section after a thrilling victory at Gay Meadow. Luke Rodgers fired the Shrews into a third-minute lead with his 12th goal of the season. But Mark Boyd equalised on the hour after being set up by Steve McPhee's clever backheel. Veteran Mark Atkins had a glorious chance to win the tie for the hosts from the spot in stoppage time, but his penalty was saved by Mark Goodlad. Vale moved into extra time with 10 men after John Durnin's dismissal for abusive language. And Shrewsbury profited from their numerical advantage when Lowe fired home from 20 yards five minutes into the second extra period.
