Crewe 8-0 Doncaster
All the action from the LDV Vans Trophy

Crewe equalled their biggest ever score as they thrashed Conference promotion hopefuls Doncaster to reach the LDV Vans Trophy Northern Section semi-finals.

Welsh Under-21 star David Vaughan scored the opener in the 13th minute before Dean Ashton netted twice in the space of six minutes to give Alex a commanding lead.

The England Under-20 star also had a goal disallowed as Rovers goalkeeper Andy Warrington struggled to keep the hosts at bay.

Rovers trio Paul Barnes, Tristram Whitman and Robert Gill had chances to drag Doncaster back into the contest, but they were made to pay for their wastefulness by Rodney Jack.

He piled on the agony for Doncaster with goals in the 53rd and 64th minute before Ashton completed his hat-trick with a powerful header in the 74th minute.

Substitute Steve Jones netted the seventh goal before Kenny Lunt completed the rout five minutes from time.

Crewe: Bankole, Wright, Walker, Foster, Tierney, Lunt, Brammer, Sorvel, Vaughan, Ashton, Jack. Subs: Ince, Walton, Jones, Bell, Miles.

Doncaster: Warrington, Marples, Ryan, Morley, Barrick, Whitman, Ravenhill, Hudson, Beech, Barnes, Gill. Subs: Albrighton, Owen, Nelson, Green, Foster.

Referee: A Butler (Nottinghamshire).
