Bury 2-0 Tranmere
Third Division Bury claimed another notable scalp to move into the semi-finals of the LDV Vans Trophy Northern Section with a fine win over Tranmere. The Shakers knocked out Bolton and Stoke to reach the third round of the Worthington Cup and goals from Jon Newby and David Nugent sealed another act of giant-killing. Newby missed several first-half opportunities but scored the crucial opening goal after 14 minutes following Colin Woodthorpe`s pin-point corner. Tranmere had plenty of possession but carried little threat and Bury deservedly doubled their lead nine minutes into the second half. Man-of-the-match Paul O'Shaughnessy began the move before Newby applied the killer ball to 17-year-old Nugent, who made no mistake from close range.
