Luton 1-2 Cambridge
Cambridge win on the golden goal rule
Luke Guttridge grabbed a golden-goal winner in the 113th minute to give Cambridge a superb win at Second Division Luton Town in the LDV Vans Trophy Southern Section. Luton opened the scoring after 14 minutes when Tony Thorpe fired the ball into the back of the net with a close-range volley. However, the visitors responded positively and deservedly restored parity when Terry Fleming forced the game into extra time with a fine 55th-minute equaliser. But Cambridge were indebted to goalkeeper Shaun Marshall for a series of superb saves to keep them in the game. He defied Thorpe in the first half and then threw himself in the way of second-half efforts from Dean Crowe and Andrew Fotiadis. Guttridge had two late chances to win it for Cambridge in normal time but fired wide on both occasions before booking his side`s place in the next round with an excellent finish in extra time.
