Hull 2-4 Leicester

(after extra time)

Leicester scored three goals in extra-time to end the game Worthington Cup challenge of Hull at Boothferry Park.

The match had been level at 1-1 after 90 minutes, but in the extra 30 minutes Paul Dickov, Alan Rogers and James Scowcroft netted to see off their brave opponents.

The Foxes had enjoyed most of the possession, but were unable to make their dominance pay despite opening the scoring.

In the 17th minute Scottish striker Dickov slipped a neat pass to spring the offisde trap and Rogers put the ball past Matty Glennon in the Hull goal.

Hull were on level terms after 30 minutes after a blunder by the Leicester back four.

Richie Appleby, making his debut for the Tigers, caught out the Foxes rearguard with a quick free-kick and the ball fell to Gary Alexander, who swept it in with his right foot.

Leicester controlled the second-half but failed to convert chances to and it was Hull who had the chance to steal the game in the final minutes but Tigers' substitute Simon Johnson spooned his shot over the bar.

Dickov struck early in the added time, taking on the home defence before coolly slotting home from eight yards.

Phil Jevons missed a chance to equalise before Rogers hammered home Leicester's third and the tie was finished when Scowcroft headed home on 99 minutes.

Ian Ashbee headed a consolation goal for the home side in the 117th minute from a corner.
