Man City rout Tranmere
Tranmere 1-7 Manchester City

Manchester City warmed up for their return to the Premiership by thrashing managerless Tranmere at Prenton Park.

Nicolas Anelka netted a brace as Kevin Keegan's men ran riot in the first half, with Chris Shuker adding another to make it 3-0 at half-time.

Shaun Wright-Phillips scored in the second half and trialist Karin Kenkar impressed with two goals to take City's tally to seven.

A goal from Danny Harrison proved scant consolation for Rovers' caretaker-manager Ray Mathias.
