Joy for young England

England's youngsters completed a revenge mission on behalf of their senior counterparts by holding off Brazil to claim victory in the Nationwide Under-17 Tournament.

A 1-1 draw at Oxford's Kassam Stadium saw England finish the four-team competition unbeaten after their 2-2 draw against Italy and 2-0 win over the Czech Republic.

Coach John Peacock's side made the perfect start with a goal after just eight minutes.

Winger Aaron Lennon crossed from the right and his Leeds clubmate James Milner showed good composure to curl the ball just inside the post.

A repeat of the senior side's 2-1 World Cup defeat by Brazil loomed when Jailson headed home from a corner.

But England were helped by the sending-off of Brazil captain Junior for a foul just outside his own penalty area and played out time to lift the trophy.

A 2-0 victory for the Czech Republic over Italy earlier on Sunday allowed them to finish the tournament as runners-up.
