Blatter's foreign quota call
Blatter claims European support for his plans
Fifa president Sepp Blatter wants a ruling to control the number of foreigners playing for club sides.
Blatter told BBC Sport Online that if he would push for a limit of five non-nationals per team if he is re-elected president on 29 May.
"This is an item that is on my agenda," said Blatter. "The origin of a club was the same city, then it became the same region. But now, it's not even the same country." As things currently stand, there is no limit on the number of foreign players a team may field - although in Europe there are restrictions on the number of non-EU nationals.
Blatter did, however, reveal that he faced opposition from some English clubs. "There is some disagreement from clubs in the Premiership, particularly one in London which fields no Englishmen and plays at Stamford Bridge," he said. In the past, the Chelsea have fielded teams composed entirely of non-English players, notably against Lazio in the Champions' League.
