Airdrie double blow
Scott McCulloch in action for Dundee United
Scott McCulloch has left Airdrie and joined Forfar
First Division title hopefuls Airdrieonians have lost two of their first team - Scott McCulloch and Mark Reilly - to cash restraints.

Manager Ian McCall had wanted to keep former Dunfermline Athletic and Dundee United defender McCulloch after a successful trial period.

But Airdrie could not afford to offer McCulloch a permanent contract and he has moved to Second Division Forfar Athletic on a short-term deal.

Ian McCall wanted Mark Reilly to stay
McCall also hoped to make Reilly's move to Airdrie permanent after the midfielder impressed on loan, but he has returned to Rugby Park.

The double blow comes as Airdrie are attempting to peg back leaders Partick Thistle, having narrowed the gap to five points in midweek.

McCall said: "It's a shame to lose these players and we've now a squad of only 17 players."
