No Savage at Ibrox
Savage exemplifies a no-nonsense approach

Rangers boss Alex McLeish is not about to give Robbie Savage the chance to fulfil his ambition of playing in an Old Firm game.

The combative Leicester City midfielder said that he would love a move to McLeish's Scottish Premier League club.

But McLeish on Sunday shot down speculation that a move had been made for the often controversial player.

"That was a name that was put to us, but there is no business," he said.

Leicester are adrift at the bottom of the English Premiership and look certain to be relegated.

But Savage believes that he still has plenty to offer at a high level and was hoping that McLeish would take him to Ibrox.

"Rangers are a massive club and I'd fancy a bit of that," he told the News of the World newspaper.

Former Leicester team-mate Neil Lennon has been starring for Rangers' Glasgow rivals, Celtic.

"It's always been an ambition of mine to play in an Old Firm game one day," said Savage.

"There has been speculation about me signing for Rangers a few times in the past and I'd love it to come to something one day.

"I'm only 27, so I haven't given up on it. I still have plenty of time to fulfil my ambition."

Scottish Premier League giants Rangers are short of midfield cover, having sold several key players this season.

Skipper Barry Ferguson is also expected to leave for the Premiership at the end of the season.
