Andy Booth was the hero for Huddersfield as his 38th-minute header secured a place in the northern-section final of the LDV Vans Trophy as they beat Hull 1-0. Booth pounced to stab home the rebound after Paul Musselwhite had parried Chris Hay's deflected shot. Hull were in control for much of the game and Booth's strike sparked Brian Little's men into further action. Ryan Williams and ex-Town winger David Beresford posed the main threat for Hull who came desperately close to forcing extra-time in the second half. Town survived a penalty appeal when Danny Schofield appeared to handle the ball. And Hull's record signing Lawrie Dudfield spurned an excellent chance to equalise as he fired wide from close range.
Hull: Musselwhite, Petty, Whittle, Goodison, Holt, Williams,
Sneekes, Whitmore, Beresford, Dudfield, Alexander.
Huddersfield: Margetson, Heary, Gray, Moses, Evans, Knight,
Irons, Mattis, Booth, Hay, Schofield. Referee: G Cain (Bootle) |
