Cambridge reached the Southern Section final of the LDV Vans Trophy for the first time after beating Barnet.

But it was a struggle against their Conference opponents.

The Bees had a shot cleared off the line in stoppage-time which would have taken the match into extra-time.

But, after Stevland Angus blocked the effort from Lee Gledhill, Cambridge broke away and Luke Guttridge wrapped it up with a shot on the rebound after Danny Naisbitt saved from Armand One.

Both teams struggled to play football on a difficult slippery surface, but Cambridge carved out the clearer chances.

They took the lead in the 29th minute when Shane Tudor lobbed the ball in from 25 yards.

The Us almost doubled their advantage in the 65th minute when Andy Duncan hammered a shot against the crossbar from a corner.

Barnet, who beat three Second Division sides on their way to the semi-final, could not break down a determined Cambridge defence.
