Notts County 0-1 Oldham
E-mail your reaction to Football Talk Allan Smart's first goal for Oldham guided his side through to the northern section semi-finals of the LDV Vans Trophy with a 1-0 win at Notts County. Smart, a £200,000 signing from Watford last week, struck two minutes before half-time to finally find a way past Stuart Garden, County's reserve goalkeeper who had earlier produced four splendid saves. Injury-hit County made eight changes from the side beaten at Bristol City on Saturday, but they battled back in the second half. Henrik Jorgensen and substitute Paul Heffernan had chances to equalise. Oldham almost increased their lead in stoppage time when Matthew Tipton's shot rebounded off the crossbar.
Notts County: Garden, Fenton, Stone, Baraclough, Riley, Holmes, Brough, Jorgensen, Nicholson, Quinn, Hackworth. Subs: Allsopp, McNamara, Heffernan, Caskey, Deeney. Oldham: Rachubka, Holden, Armstrong, Beharall, Balmer, Innes, Duxbury, Darren Sheridan, Eyre, Tipton, Smart. Subs: Kelly, McNiven, Rickers, Allott, Baudet. Referee: A Bates (Stoke on Trent).
