Cambridge 2-1 Brighton
E-mail your reaction to Football Talk Cambridge 2-1 Brighton Struggling Cambridge knocked Division Two leaders Brighton out of the LDV Vans Trophy in extra-time at the Abbey Stadium. French teenager Armand One scored the golden goal winner in the 94th minute. One cut in from the left and unleashed a tremendous drive which ricocheted off Brighton's Steve Melton and gave goalkeeper Michel Kuipers no chance. It was an eventful match for Melton, who had put Brighton ahead with a 20-yard shot in the 36th minute. Seven minutes later, he assisted the Cambridge equaliser, giving the ball to Dave Kitson who burst into the box and scored from 10 yards. Cambridge had the better of a goalless second half against what was effectively a Brighton reserves side containing only two players from their usual league team. But United were unable to finish off some excellent approach work and had to go to extra time for the third tie in the competition this season.
Cambridge Utd: Perez, Tann, Duncan, Angus, Ashbee, Guttridge,
Wanless, Tudor, Scully, Kitson, One. Subs: Walling, Fleming,
Marshall, Youngs, Revell.
