Hull 3-0 Leigh
Gary Alexander's first senior hat-trick guaranteed Hull a safe passage through
to the third round of the LDV Vans Trophy.
The Conference outfit failed to muster a single effort on target during a first half in which Hull ran amok, yet failed to build a substantial advantage. Despite numerous efforts on goal, all Brian Little's side had to show for their dominance was a 10th-minute penalty from Alexander after Julian Johnsson had been tripped. The visitors started the second half much better but were left to rue a glaring miss from former Manchester United forward Michael Twiss on the hour mark. In the space of seven minutes, the Division Three side had put the game beyond doubt. Alexander powered home a far-post header in the 63rd minute before lashing the ball home in fine style from 20 yards with his left foot four minutes later.

Leigh RMI: Westhead, Chris Scott, Swan, Durkin, Farrell, Heald, Fisher, Fitzpatrick, Kielty, Twiss, Maamria. Subs: Monk, Black, Hallows, Spooner, German. Referee: B Curson (Walsall).
