Cardiff 1-3 Peterborough
Cardiff's progress towards a Millennium Stadium final was halted by defeat at the hands of Second Division rivals Peterborough.

The Bluebirds had thrashed Rushden & Diamonds 7-1 earlier in the LDV Vans Trophy.

But boss Alan Cork elected to play effectively a second-string side and Posh were always in command of this second-round tie.

Barry Fry's men went ahead in the sixth minute through a Jimmy Bulland penalty.

They finished off the tie with strikes from Leon McKenzie in the 78th minute and Francis Green five minutes later.

The Bluebirds' 90th-minute penalty from veteran striker Kevin Nugent was scant consolation.

Cardiff: Walton, Jones, Hughes, Young, McCulloch, Hamilton, Bonner, Maxwell, Low, Fortune-West, Collins. Subs: Giles, Nugent, Thompson, Jordan, Evans.

Peterborough: Tyler, Jelleyman, Joseph, Rea, Williams, Bullard, Oldfield, Danielsson, Cullen, McKenzie, Fenn. Subs: Green, Connor, Murray, Shields, French.

Referee: M Brandwood (Lichfield)
