Barnet 2-1 Bournemouth
A Roy Essandoh golden goal eight minutes into extra-time sealed a memorable 2-1 win for Barnet over Second Division Bournemouth in the first round of the LDV Vans Trophy.

Both sides had plenty of chances to steal the advantage in the early stages with Wayne Purser forcing a fingertip save from Bournemouth goalkeeper Michael Menetrier after 20 minutes.

But it was the Cherries who took first blood when Trevor Kandol headed home a Brian Stock cross after 31 minutes.

Barnet got back on level terms in the 53th minute when Robert Sawyers unleashed a superb 35-yard strike that sailed over Menetrier into the goal.

Purser came close to stealing the win in normal time but his shot was knocked just wide of the post by the Cherries goalkeeper.

But it was Essandoh, a FA Cup hero for Wycombe last season, who tied up the win for the Conference side in extra time with a magnificent 30-yard strike.

Barnet: Harrison, Gledhill, Flynn, Heald, Arber, Gower, Bell, Sawyers, Brown, Purser, Essandoh. Subs: Midgley, Naisbitt, Wiper, Pluck, Taylor.

Bournemouth: Menetrier, Howe, Smith, Broadhurst, Elliott, Huck, O'Connor, Stock, Hayter, Holmes, Kandol. Subs: Stewart, Tindall, Eribenne, Ford, Narada.

Referee: F Stretton (Nottingham).
