Blackpool 3-2 Stoke
Blackpool survived a late onslaught to earn a place in the second round of the LDV Vans Trophy with a win over Stoke.

Both sides used the game to allow squad players to show their paces but it was Blackpool who revealed far more appetite for the match after a dour start.

Neil MacKenzie set up Gary Parkinson for Blackpool's first in the 41st minute.

And on-loan defender Steve Caldwell scored the second five minutes after the interval following a complete mix-up between City goalkeeper Gavin Ward and Brynjar Gunnarsson.

Blackpool were well on top when John Murphy made it 3-0 in the 54th minute but the Seasiders lost concentration as they have so often this season.

Their complacency allowed Chris Iwelumo to pull one back with a fine header and Lewis Neal gave City some hope with a late penalty after James Pullen had pulled down Wayne Thomas.

Blackpool: Pullen, Parkinson, Reid, Caldwell, Coid, Mike Milligan, Jamie Milligan, MacKenzie, Clarkson, John Murphy, Fenton. Subs: Barnes, Ormerod, Thompson, Bullock, O'Kane.

Stoke: Ward, Thomas, Gunnarsson, Clarke, Brian Wilson, Rowson, Henry, Commons, Neal, Goodfellow, Iwelumo. Subs: Vandeurzen, Kristinsson, Wilkinson, Laurence Hall, Shtaniuk.

Referee: A Kaye (Wakefield).
