Trotman dies in crash

Trinidad and Tobago forward Mickey Trotman has been killed in a car crash.

Trotman, 26, was killed in the accident in Trinidad along with a brother and two friends.

He played his club football for Rochester in the American A-League.

Trotman will be remembered for the goal which gave Trinidad a 2-1 win over Costa Rica in extra time in the quarter-finals of last year's CONCACAF Gold Cup, the championship of soccer's North and Central American and Caribbean region.

He had scored nine goals in 24 international appearances.

It appears Trotman had left the Trinidad training camp without permission to visit his relatives.

Trinidad coach Rene Simoes said: "In countries such as the UAE, Brazil, Jamaica and Qatar, we have witnessed the death of talented players.

"In all cases, the deaths were attributed to excess speeding, fatigue and a lack of attention. But with that said, Mickey will be missed."
