Man City ease to win over Terriers

Huddersfield 0-2 Man City

Kevin Keegan's Manchester City brushed aside the challenge of Huddersfield with goals from Paulo Wanchope and Shaun Goater either side of the break.

Wanchope struck on 44 minutes when a Danny Tiatto cross was headed by Goater across the face of goal and rebounded off Town defender Steve Jenkins to the Costa Rican, who shot through a crowd of players into the net.

Goater sealed a comfortable win on 54 minutes side-footing into the far corner from a Tiatto through ball.

Earlier Goater forced a brilliant double save from Terriers keeper Martyn Margetson on 14 minutes.

Richard Dunne sent former Newcastle star Laurent Charvet scampering down the right to fire over a cross for Goater.

Slick football

Goater's downward header was blocked by Margetson's fingers and the ball rebounded back to the striker who blasted goalwards only to see Margetson, still on the floor, somehow keep the ball out with a flailing arm.

City played the slicker football but Town had their chances in a testimonial match played to honour one-club man Jon Dyson - who is celebrating his 10th year with the McAlpine club.

Andy Booth played a one-two with right-back Jenkins and dashed to the far post in time to head a Jenkins cross goalward but keeper Carlo Nash pulled off a great reaction save.

In the second half Australian trialist Frederick Biancalani, who was a big hit with the home fans, went on a mazy run past three defenders and fired a blistering shot which Nash did well to hold at the second attempt.
