Motson: Swede success
John Motson
John Motson: The Eriksson revolution begins here
BBC Sport's John Motson is convinced that Sven Goran Eriksson will be a success despite a poor finish to his Lazio career.

The resignation of Sven Goran Eriksson is a late Christmas present for the Football Association and marks the start of an international revolution for English football.

Lazio's loss is certainly England's gain and Eriksson can now be installed at the throne of English football on a full time basis.

This is an exciting time for England and, in Eriksson, the likes of Taylor and McClaren have a great tutor
  John Motson
In recent weeks, the media have shown real concern regarding Lazio's poor form under the Swede.

But this kind of paranoia is bound to manifest itself when there is nothing better to talk about on the international front.

It seems very harsh to start criticising a manager before he has has even begun his job.

Admittedly, Lazio have struggled to find their form in the league this season after winning the championship last time round.

But the Rome side are not the only team who have suffered a European backlash and this can be put down to their efforts in the Champions League

The likes of Rangers, Leeds and Monaco have all struggled domestically in their bid for Champions League glory.

My only concern is that Peter Taylor will be pushed out of the international set-up now that Eriksson has become available.

Those foolish enough to judge him by Lazio's shortcomings in the league so far this term will be proved wrong in time
  John Motson
Taylor has already demonstrated he is more than capable of taking charge of England and it would be a huge blow if someone of his calibre were to disappear into the international wilderness without trace.

In a five years time I would love to see Taylor given the chance to prove himself at the top level.

He has already made a firm impression both with the England Under-21's and against England with the first team.

Adam Crozier has made it perfectly clear that the likes of Taylor and Steve McClaren will be groomed to one day succeed Eriksson as manager of England.

Lets hope Crozier keeps his promise. This is an exciting time for England and, in Eriksson, the likes of Taylor and McClaren have a great tutor.

Everywhere the Swedish coach has gone he has been a success. Those foolish enough to judge him by Lazio's shortcomings in the league so far this term will be proved wrong in time.

The sooner Eriksson takes the reins the better because with him in the hotseat, England have every chance of qualifying for the next World Cup.
