Cornish surf life saver makes European team

Surf life saving - generic

Cornish teenager Meesha Warman has been selected to represent Great Britain at this month's Junior European Surf Life Saving Championships in Belgium.

Warman, who competes for the Portreath Surf Life Saving Club, was selected as one of a mixed team of 10 juniors.

The 16-year-old, from St Ives, will compete in Belgium at the championships at the end of August.

Warman admits that her ambition is "to stand on the world champion podium in first place."

She had to attend a national boot camp for the top 24 boys and girls before being selected for the final team.

"I'm the only one from Cornwall," she said. "I was really happy, but I know everyone so I'm not going there solo.

"I'm really looking forward to it. I've never been in the Great Britain squad before, so it will be a really good experience."

Surf Life Saving involves a variety of elements including surf swimming, sand running, mock rescues and relays.
