Gladding 'lucky to be alive' after horror dive

British diver Monique Gladding suffered a head injury at the Fina Grand Prix in Russia when she struck the platform during the 10m synchro competition.

Gladding was unconscious when she hit the water and needed eight stitches and underwent a scan at hospital.

The South African-born 29-year-old was competing with partner Megan Sylvester with whom she won European gold in October 2010.

In 2009, Gladding and Sylvester came sixth at the world championships.
