Women's Test, Grace Road: England 223 & 345-8 dec drew with
India 298 & 187-8
England were forced to settle for a draw in the first women's Test against India at Grace Road.
The home side had two sessions to claim 10 wickets but despite 3-44 from Laura Marsh and 2-39 from Jenny Gunn, the tourists held on at 187-8.
Rumeli Dhar (57) and Amita Sharma (50) both hit maiden Test half-centuries .
Having resumed on 229-2, England, declared at lunch 270 ahead. Claire Taylor fell early in the day after adding just 10 to her overnight 105.
England quickly reduced India to 10-3 but they ran out of time, Dhar and Sharma's 77-run partnership thwarting them.
There was relief for the hosts when pace bowler Katherine Brunt's scan results showed no stress fracture in her back.
Physiotherapist Sue Hughes said: "There was no serious pathology on the scan.
"We're working towards getting Katherine back to full fitness as soon as possible."
