Indian captain Mithali Raj admitted her side had under-performed following their World Cup final defeat by Australia at Centurion Park.
India's disappointment was clear to see at the end of the game
They were dismissed for 117, with four players run out, after Australia had totalled 215-4 in their 50 overs.
"It was a big day for us, playing in the final for the first time.
"I think the girls panicked when we lost a couple of wickets early and we couldn't build partnerships - that's why we failed," said Raj.
There was consolation, however, in the fact that their performance in the tournament has helped raise the profile of the women's game back at home.
"We got quite a few calls from India saying we had done something good. I hope qualifying for the final will make some kind of impact," Raj commented.
"I think a couple of girls will be announcing their retirement. So we'll have to build a team for the next World Cup with youngsters coming in."
