First Test, Georgetown, day four.
Australia 489 and 147-1 beat West Indies 237 and 398 by nine wickets
Justin Langer capped a superb performance in the Guyana Test with an unbeaten 78 on Sunday as Australia closed out a comfortable victory before tea on the fourth day.
They needed just 147 to beat West Indies after Jason Gillespie struck form with the ball early in the day.
And in the event they lost just one wicket, Matthew Hayden's, with the pitch refusing to misbehave.
Langer, who scored 146 in the first innings, went to fifty at nearly a run a ball before slowing down as victory neared.
But Hayden again looked a little out of sorts as his poor trot continued. He was eventually out for 19 attempting a pull shot which he completely mishit to be caught at midwicket.
Ricky Ponting, one of five centurions in the Test, finished on 42.
At the start of the day, the West Indies lower order quickly capitulated.
They had resumed on 381-5 looking to build a decent lead but lost their final five wickets for just 17 runs within the first hour's play.
Gillespie took four of those wickets as he finished with figures of 5-39 in the innings.
Vasbert Drakes and Merv Dillon were both out lbw and Shivnarine Chanderpaul could not repeat his heroics of the first innings when he nicked a catch to Adam Gilchrist for 31.
Jason Gillespie was in superb form early in the day
Chanderpaul and Ridley Jacobs both needed runners because they were injured in the first innings.
It was reckoned to be the first time in Test history that four batsmen had been on the field of play at one time.
Jacobs hit spinner Stuart MacGill for six but was then out the next ball when an inside edge was brilliantly caught by Darren Lehmann at short leg.
And West Indies' innings was over when Jermaine Lawson was out for a duck, lbw to Gillespie.
The groin injury suffered by Jacobs rules him out of the next Test at least while the absence of a single spinner was a major oversight by the selectors.
