A tall, lean bowler, Collins is certainly not from the West Indies old school of all-out pace.
But his left-arm medium-fast deliveries add much-needed variety to West Indies attack, with both angle and an ability to swing the ball away from the right-hander.
Collins endured an aborted first spell in Test cricket, when he was dropped after three Tests against Australia in 1998/99.
Critics blamed a lack of stamina, but he worked on his fitness and returned to the side in 2001/02, boasting a higher arm action and an extra yard of pace.
And he was able to reap the rewards with a career-best 6-76 against New Zealand at his home ground of Bridgetown.
