Australian Prime Minister John Howard believes the Ashes should be returned to his country.

He has joined a growing chorus of people including England's Alec Stewart and Australian captain Steve Waugh who believe the original urn should be presented to the Ashes winner.

Australia won this Ashes contest when they took an unassailable 3-0 lead in the Test series after victory at Trent Bridge.

But at the presentation, Waugh was given a replica urn and a crystal trophy.

The original urn is permanently housed in the museum at Lord's.
