Indian squad profiles
Anjum Chopra
Anjum Chopra (captain)
Team: Air India Women
Left hand batsman; right arm medium pace bowler

A stylish player, who made 100 off 128 balls in a one-day match against England at Northampton in 1999. Led India to a clean sweep over England on home soil during the winter after replacing Anju Jain as skipper and also achieved a notable 10-wicket success in a one-off Test in South Africa in March.

Mithali Raj (vice-captain)
Team: Air Indian Women
Right hand batsman; right arm leg-spin bowler

Still only 19, Raj has shown a maturity beyond her years since marking her debut with 114 not out against Ireland three years ago. Normally bats at number three or four, she made two half centuries in South Africa earlier this year.

Neetu David
Neetu David
Team: Railways Women
Right hand batsman; slow left-arm spin bowler

A key member of India's attack, David's flight and guile brought her eight for 53 in a Test match against England at Jamshedpur in 1995 and she also contributed 10 wickets during the winter one-day series between the two sides. Has been less successful, however, away from the sub-continent.

Jhulan Goswami
Team: Bengal
Right arm medium pace bowler; right hand batsman

Goswami's ability to move the ball off the seam has made her a useful addition to the Indian attack in both forms of the game. Was named Player of the Match after taking three for eight in a one-day game against England at Hyderabad earlier this year.

Bindeshwari Goyal
Team: Madhya Pradesh
Right arm off-spin bowler; right hand batsman

Having made her debut against England at Lucknow, Goyal kept her place for the recent tour of South Africa and took two for 23 from 28 overs in the home side's second innings as India won the one-off Test by 10 wickets.

Noosin Al Kadeer
Team: Karnataka
Right hand batsman; right arm off-spin bowler

Born in Iran, Kadeer made her one-day debut against England at Hyderabad in January. Took two for 24 in her second appearance, dismissing Arran Thompson and Kate Lowe.

Hemlata Kala
Hemlata Kala
Team: Railways Women
Right hand batsman; right arm medium pace bowler

A highly capable middle-order performer, Kala made a magnificent 110 in the one-off Test against England in January. Has yet to make a similar impact in one-day cricket, but scored 56 against Holland during the 2000 World Cup.

Arnundhati Kirkire
Team: Madhya Pradesh
Right hand batsman; right arm medium pace bowler; wicket-keeper

One of the fittest members of the squad, Kirkire's only innings of note so far at international level came in Hyderabad when she hit 35 off 36 balls against England during a one-dayer.

Deepa Kulkarni
Deepa Kulkarni
Team: Railways Women
Slow left-arm spin bowler; right hand batsman

One of the most experienced members of the squad, having made her debut during the 1997 World Cup, Kulkarni bowled India to a one-day win over South Africa at Cape Town in March with figures of four for 28.

Mamantha Maben
Right hand batsman; right arm medium pace bowler

After playing in the 1993 World Cup, Maben had to wait until the home series against England last winter for another chance. She did not waste it, scoring 53 not out in the third one-dayer at Hyderabad and 50 in a one-off Test in South Africa. Also works as a journalist.

Sulakshna Naik
Team: Bombay
Right-hand batsman; wicket-keeper

Sumetra Parajpe
Team: Bombay Women
Right hand batsman; right arm medium pace bowler

The senior seam bowler in the side, Pullar took five for seven against South Africa in only her sixth one-day appearance for New Zealand. Contributed 12 wickets as they whitewashed England 5-0 on home soil two years ago.

Amita Sharma
Team: Delhi
Right arm medium pace bowler; right hand batsman

Jaya Sharma
Team: North Zone Women
Left hand batsman; right arm medium pace bowler

Dismissed cheaply in two-one day matches against England at the start of the year, opening batsman Sharma made a satisfactory Test debut against South Africa in March, batting for an hour and a half to make 24.

Sunita Singh
Team: Railways Women
Right hand batsman; right arm medium pace bowler

Singh has been a regular member of the squad since the 2000 World Cup in New Zealand. A reliable member of the attack, she took two for 25 against England in Madras in January and two for eight in Hyderabad.
