He was given a one-match suspension for "conduct unbecoming" after barging into Indian batsman Rahul Dravid during a match at the ICC Knockout event in Kenya in October 2000.

And in May last year, he was one of six players fined for smoking marijuana in a hotel room following a one-day international victory over West Indies in Antigua.

Out of favour since the team's return from the Caribbean, he has been given another chance with Allan Donald still recovering from a hamstring injury suffered in the first Test at Johannesburg.
