Boeta Dippenaar
It is appropriate that "boeta" is an Afrikaans term meaning "little brother" because Hendrik Human Dippenaar was just 16 years old when he scored a half-century against Mike Atherton's England tourists on debut for Free State in 1995/96.
Since then he has been a prolific opening batsman on the domestic scene but, with the dominance of Gary Kirsten and Herschelle Gibbs, has had to bat at three in Test cricket - and he has struggled to come to terms with the role. In one-day internationals, however, Dippenaar's record is pretty tasty. Seven fifties in 24 appearances with an average of nearly fifty is a great start, and he is gifted enough to score quickly without playing unnatural shots. Expect him to have a good World Cup on home soil - and eventually to translate his one-day form into some big scores in the Test arena.
