Sri Lanka are still hopeful Muttiah Muralitharan will be fit for their two Tests on the tour of New Zealand.
The spinner will miss the one-day games starting on 26 December after surgery on an injured shoulder but may return for the first Test from 15 January.
"Hopefully he'll be ready," said Sri Lanka captain Marvin Atapattu. "That's why we've brought just 14 players.
"We've created a vacancy that he will fill if fit. But we're delighted that his recovery is progressing smoothly."
Muralitharan was operated on in August to treat a lesion which had caused a build-up of fluid around the nerves in his right shoulder.
He has resumed bowling in the nets and is expected to prove his fitness in a practice match in Sri Lanka on 27 December.
Sri Lanka begin their tour of New Zealand on 21 December, then play the Kiwis in five one-day games starting on 26 December.
The first Test is in Hamilton and is followed by another in Wellington from 22 January.
