Cricket World Cup: Junaid to replace injured Tanvir

Sohail Tanvir
Tanvir played five ODIs on the recent tour of New Zealand

Fast bowler Sohail Tanvir has been ruled out of Pakistan's World Cup campaign after failing to recover sufficiently from knee surgery.

He will be replaced by the promising young left-arm fast bowler Junaid Khan.

A Pakistan Cricket Board medical panel said Tanvir's post-operation recovery had been "good", but noted mobility problems remained for the seamer.

Junaid, 21, is uncapped at senior international level but has 167 first-class wickets at an average of 21.32.

Tanvir, 26, returned to international cricket on Pakistan's recent tour to New Zealand, where he played in five of the six one-day internationals.

His overall ODI record features 48 wickets from 36 matches, with best figures of 5-48.

Junaid played alongside the banned Mohammad Amir at under-19 level for Pakistan and has impressed a number of experienced judges.
