Shoaib & Asif left on sidelines

Shoaib Akhtar
Shoaib is no longer one of Pakistan's centrally contracted players

Pace bowlers Shoaib Akhtar and Mohammad Asif have been left out of Pakistan's squad for the start of next month's one-day series against Bangladesh.

Shoaib will appear at a disciplinary hearing on Tuesday accused of breaching the players' code of conduct.

Asif, meanwhile, is still recovering from an elbow injury which has kept him out of action for five months.

The selectors have recalled Umar Gul, Rao Iftikhar and Bazid Khan for the first two games on 8 and 11 April.

Gul has now recovered from a back problem which forced him to miss last year's Tests against India, and fellow fast bowler Iftikhar is also back to full fitness after struggling during the one-dayers against Zimbabwe earlier this year, which Pakistan won 5-0.

Batsman Bazid, whose grandfather and father also played for Pakistan, has been given another chance three years on from his last appearance on a tour to the West Indies.

The series against Bangladesh was arranged at short notice after Australia pulled out of their scheduled tour to Pakistan because of safety concerns.

And it gives the selectors another opportunity to take a look at talented youngsters Nasir Jamshed and Wahab Riaz, who both made their debuts against Zimbabwe.

Opening batsman Jamshed, 18, hit two half centuries during that series, while Wahab took 2-19 in his sole appearance.

Chief selector Salahuddin Ahmed said there would be changes to the squad for the later games in the series.

"We will give chance to all the players who have been doing well in the domestic competitions," he commented.

Pakistan squad: Shoaib Malik (captain), Salman Butt, Nasir Jamshed, Younis Khan, Mohammad Yousuf, Misbah-ul-Haq, Shahid Afridi, Kamran Akmal, Umar Gul, Sohail Tanvir, Rao Iftikhar, Sohail Khan, Wahab Riaz, Fawad Alam, Bazid Khan, Sarfraz Ahmed.
