Pakistan warmed up for the one-day series in India with an eight-wicket win over the country's 'A' team.
The 45-overs-per-side game in Hyderabad saw the Pakistanis chase down India A's 189-7 with four overs remaining.
Shoaib Malik (81 not out) and Salman Butt (70) shared in a 137-run stand for the second wicket after Mohammad Hafeez was run-out for 16.
Suresh Raina, 18, top-scored with 53 off 65 balls for India's reserves, while Naved-ul-Hasan returned 2-41.
Raina, a left-hander from Uttar Pradesh, was caught off Iftikhar Anjum (1-30), who along with Mohammad Hafeez (0-18) kept the hosts on a tight rein after visiting skipper Abdul Razzaq won the toss.
The six-match one-day series gets under way in Cochin on Saturday and coach Bob Woolmer believes Pakistan can build on their encouraging performances in the Tests.
"I've been very impressed with the way the team fought right through the Test matches - and our one-day side is better than our Test team," he said.
"We have a good fielding side and some top-quality batsmen in the team.
"I've only been around for eight months or so, but I feel the Pakistan team has improved quickly in this period.
"I can see a positive change in the players' outlook, I hope we can take it forward."
