Sri Lanka coach wants consistency

Sri Lanka coach Tom Moody has warned his players to avoid complacency in the home series against Bangladesh.

The two teams will play three one-day games, the first on Wednesday, and two Tests during Bangladesh's tour.

"We have got a lot of cricket in the next 6-12 months and we want to maintain some positive momentum.

"This series is as important as any other. We have a lot of respect for Bangladesh. They are an emerging side and improving all the time."

Sri Lanka have done well since Moody was appointed to replace fellow Australian John Dyson earlier this year.

They won two home Tests against West Indies in July and then defeated India by seven runs in the final of a triangular limited overs tournament.

Opener Sanath Jayasuriya reached 10,000 one-day runs during the final but is struggling with a shoulder injury.

"Sanath probably needs a couple of weeks rest," said Atapattu.

"He has no problem handling the bat, but we will keep him out of bowling for as long as we can."

Bangladesh remain bottom of the Test and one-day rankings.

But they defeated Australia in a one-day match on their recent tour to England and have a number of talented youngsters in their squad.

"You can't take any side lightly in international cricket.

"They have improved - it shows in their recent performances," Atapattu added.
