Mohammed Kaif

DOB: 01.12.80
Team: Uttar Pradesh
Test debut: v South Africa, 2nd Test, Bangalore, 2000
ODI debut: 4th ODI v England, Kanpur 2002

Right-hand batsman

Although unable to force his way into the Test side since the series with Sri Lanka last year, Kaif's talents continue to be recognised by the selectors in the one-day arena.

Having led the Indian team to victory at the Under-19 World Cup in 2000, he was promoted to the senior squad later the same year.

But it was not until January this year that he was given his first chance in the
senior one-day side.

After playing in three games against England, he made scores of 56 and 68 in the series which followed against Zimbabwe, the latter innings helping secure a five-wicket win.

He was short of runs on the subsequent tour to the West Indies, but looks a likely prospect for the 2003 World Cup in South Africa.
