Ian Bell
England's great hope for the future was called up as batting cover after Mark Butcher injured his thumb in the first Test. Bell has advanced swiftly up the ranks, captaining England under-19s and representing the A team. The 19-year-old was singled out for special praise by the director of the England Cricket Academy, Rod Marsh. With only 13 first class appearances, a Test place may be just beyond Bell, but he will at least gain valuable experience of being in the England set up. But the England selectors have great hopes that the Warwickshire player will emerge as a future Test star.
