Warren Hegg

DOB: 23.2.68
County: Lancashire
Test debut: 4th Test v Australia, Melbourne 1998

Wicket-keeper, right hand batsman
Hegg's first Test appearance was a memorable one as he contributed four catches in a thrilling 12-run victory at the MCG and he kept his place for following match in Sydney as Alec Stewart concentrated on captaincy and opening the batting.

But Chris Read was preferred for the 1999-2000 trip to South Africa and Paul Nixon acted as Stewart's understudy in Pakistan and Sri Lanka last winter.

Hegg underwent laser treatment on his eyes last winter which helped him enjoy an excellent summer for Lancashire during which he completed 38 dismissals and made two Championship centuries.

His consistent form, coupled with Stewart's decision to miss the tour in order to spend time with his family, prompted the selectors to give Hegg another chance and also led to Lancashire appointing him captain for 2002.
