Craig White

DOB: Born: 16.12.69
County: Yorkshire

Test debut: 1st Test v New Zealand, Trent Bridge 1994
One-day international debut: v Australia, Sydney 1994

Right hand batsman, right arm fast medium bowler

White's all-round ability could prove crucial to the balance of the England side but knee surgery meant he was unavailable for the one-day series in India.

His one-day batting record is modest - a highest score of 38 and average of 12.4 do not do justice to his ability - but he is being considered for a pinch-hitting role which could suit his positive approach.

Although a back problem has meant he does not possess the speed of old, prompting Andrew Flintoff's late call-up for the Test series in India, White's ability to reverse swing the white ball late in an innings is a very useful weapon.

After failing to shine in the first phase of his international career, White was a surprise inclusion in the list of centrally contracted players for the 2000 season, but has proved coach Duncan Fletcher's judgment to be spot on.
