Captain Michael Clarke basks in the Adelaide sunshine on Australia Day after England skipper Andrew Strauss, 3-0 down in the seven-match series, wins the toss and elects to bat first on a belting batting track
Despite losing Strauss in the third over, England's aggressive intent is personified by Matt Prior, efficiently using his feet to smash the fast bowlers down the track with the fielding restrictions still in place
Mayhem ensues in the 15th over with Jonathan Trott and Prior both standing in the same crease - but Trott survives a run-out attempt because Brett Lee's throw is too strong to Clarke at the non-striker's end
Then with England seemingly poised for a total above 300, disaster strikes as Steven Smith removes Kevin Pietersen and Ian Bell in quick succession in the 27th as the tourists wobble at 154-4
But Trott maintains his cucumber-like composure, collecting runs with consummate ease as he smears only his sixth boundary on the way to his second one-day international century
But soon after reaching three figures Trott falls, leaving Michael Yardy and Paul Collingwood to launch a spirited 56-run stand from just 45 deliveries
Collingwood makes a welcome return to form with a six and two fours in 27 from as many balls
The unlikely figure of David Hussey and his part-time off-spin picks up a career-best 4-21 as he cleans up the lower half of England's tail, but not before the tourists finish with a competitive 299-8 from their 50 overs
Shane Watson looks on as his opening partner Brad Haddin's innings comes to an abrupt end after a couple of vicious boundaries when he mistimes a Tremlett slower ball and is caught by Strauss for 20
After Anderson dismisses Shaun Marsh, Aussie skipper Clarke departs in the 17th over when he misses a Collingwood delivery and is bowled for 15 with Australia 87-3
The in-form Watson, having hit a huge six off Tremlett, falls for 64 when he is caught behind off Shahzad in what could be a match-winning wicket for England
Trott is also the surprise hero with the ball for England, picking up 2-31, his first one-day international wickets
Steve Smith launches a rearguard with an unbeaten 46 from 47 balls and shares 77 with Brett Lee who makes 39
But Australia fall 21 runs short, England keep the series alive and with three matches remaining they trail 3-1
