Tragedy struck mid-way through the 2002 series when England one-day all-rounder Ben Hollioake died in a car crash in Australia.
Captain Nasser Hussain only learned of the 24-year-old's death at lunch on day three, having spent the morning fielding in the second Test in Wellington.
"It's an absolute tragedy that such a young, talented outgoing lad has gone - he had everything going for him," he said.
Hussain flew to Perth, along with Hollioake's Surrey team-mate Mark Butcher, to attend the funeral. The England players held their own service in Auckland days later.
